Data is pretty much everywhere. Anything we do generates data and eventually everything we look at is essentially data presented in an attractive way.
When broadcasting, information from sensors can be used to create a more complete viewing experience for the audience. In motorsports for example, displaying data such as speed and acceleration adds value to the first person video feed from inside the car.
Other cases include telemetric GPS information that shows your position on a map, sensory data that illustrates temperature change – basically any cases where data can be visually presented.
This is what Overlay.live is build for.
No matter what data you may want to display, you can use the Overlay.live infrastructure to send, receive and display it visually.
Overlay.live uses servers in the cloud to receive and send data from anywhere to anywhere in the world. The technology we use allows for a near-real time stream of information between the sensor device, our servers and any of the connected data receivers. It’s as fast as your internet connection latency (ping). In most cases, we are talking about latencies ranking between 200ms down to 50ms over the internet, or less with high speed internet connections or LAN.
For most applications, this is fine. For Premium-grade broadcaster users, we can create custom server setups which can be setup remotely within the required country, or physically on location to shorten response times to that of a LAN network. We can scale it the way you need it.
As mentioned above, we use the cloud to stream your data feeds. The Overlay URL that you get from your dashboard can be shared to anyone anywhere in the world. This means that there are no limitations as to who can receive the data, and where it can be blended and mixed with video.
A practical example is to allow remote or off-site production units to manipulate the data the way they want – with large amounts – in real-time. With the data feed in their hands they can customize it to their liking, choosing the way it displays, and even recording it for analyis. In other words, it offers complete autonomy.
Other applications include remote monitoring, and remote commentary. Forget about streaming information captured from a screen to a remote commentator. Simply give him the URL and he will be able to live monitor all the metrics you want him to see. This means faster and clearer data which is easy to read.
